As we predicted last January, this year has proven to be a pivotal time for Chef Alex Guarnaschelli with engagements on the Food Network, frequent “ask me anything” chef sessions on Instagram, and a new cookbook slated for the fall.
But this weekend, an unexpected event took place.
On a quick trip to the grocery store to grab more bread for a cheese plate, the host of Supermarket Stakeout was faced with a life-changing question when Chef Michael Castellon, her boyfriend of four years, got down on one knee and proposed.
Afterwards, she posted an announcement on Instagram with the words, 'Ok @chermike808, you're on!' It happened to be her birthday.
The lovebirds not only share a common vocation and victories on “Chopped” and “Iron Chef,” but an appreciation for steak. In fact, it was a plate of steak prepared by Chef Mike that made Alex fall for him.
"I went in to meet him and tell him the steak was delicious and that was it," she said in an interview with People.

In October, Chef Alex’s third book, “Cook with Me”, will be available, giving us more insight into her love of cooking, Italian-American recipes and culture. The book features two spaghetti recipes alla “Godfather” and “Goodfellas.”
