When Italians tell you that gelato is not ice cream, because it’s more healthy, natural, and tasty to be considered the same thing, many Americans would agree.
And while Italian gelato brands, like Venchi, make this distinction very clear, (“made fresh in small batches,” says their website), this does not stop them from making a sweet gesture by celebrating the 2020 National Ice Cream Day.

On Sunday, July 19, from 12-2 pm, Venchi will give away free scoops of gelato at their flagship store in Union Square, New York City. In addition, a buy-one-get-one promotion will be offered all day long for anyone who provides the secret word “ICEDREAM.”
For the occasion, Venchi recommends the refreshing strawberry sorbet and classic chocolate-nut flavors, like the Cremino and Gianduja. Vegan-lovers must sample the chocolate sorbet.
For over one-hundred years, the Piedmontese gelato brand has built a legacy of chocolate bars and creamy hazelnut spreads. In 2007, they poured their knowledge of chocolate and cream into an array of over 20 gelato flavors.
The Venchi store is open from 11 am to 10 pm - 861 Broadway, New York.
